In some incredible science news, a new eye drop has been developed from a surprising source: donated blood.

Lifeblood’s new eyedrops (AlloSed) treat eye diseases that don’t respond to other medicines. It will be provided to eligible patients for free on request from registered ophthalmologists. 

LifeBlood Chief Medical Officer Dr Joanne Pink said: “Severe eye diseases can greatly affect quality of life. Poor vision can stop people from driving, reading, going outside and even working.” 

Previously, patients could access eyedrops made from their own donated blood, but this option was limited to people who could donate and lived close to a donor centre. 

AlloSED is delivered directly to a patient’s door (more accessible to those with eye issues), reducing reliance on hospital services. This year, Lifeblood expects to support around 1,100 patients.

In a study analysing the effectiveness of the eye drops, most patients reported improvements in severe dry eye symptoms within months, and described the drops as “life-changing.” 

There have been very few moments of lightness for the families and communities impacted by the terrorist attack in Bondi last year.

However, for the parents of the attack’s youngest victim, Matilda, there was some lightness this week when they married in a ceremony at Admiralty House (the Sydney residence of the Governor-General). 

Michel Britvan married Valentyna Poltavchenko in a “small, semi-secret ceremony.” 

In a post on Instagram, Britvan said he intended for the wedding to stay “nicely under the radar” until his sister “discovered the Facebook livestream button.” He joked people had assumed they were already married, but they “finally [made] it official.”   

He added that it was a “really special day” and that the couple felt “incredibly lucky” to have shared it with attendees. 

He said he wore yellow shoes, the colour that came to symbolise the beautiful life of Matilda, as a way to honour his daughter.

An international team of scientists has launched a new open-access portal that enables exploration of 3D images of human organs.

Led by scientists at University College London, the ‘Human Organ Atlas’ provides educators, scientists and curious minds an innovative way to understand human anatomy better. 

The atlas is powered by an advanced X-ray imaging method that can zoom in to less than one micron (50x thinner than human hair). 

This method was initially developed during the pandemic and has already provided new insights into gynaecological and cardiac disorders. 

Scientist Dr Paul Tafforeau said the team wanted the data “to be accessible to everyone… this is a resource for researchers, doctors, educators - but also for anyone curious about how the human body is built.” 

The team plans to expand the atlas over time to support research and education

Max Alexander has made a memorable debut at this year’s Paris Fashion Week, becoming the youngest fashion designer to present a collection at the event. 

The 10-year-old started sewing and designing at four, became the youngest runway designer at seven and debuted his fall-winter 2026-27 collection at 10. 

His designs are more than clothes – they’re a statement of his “passion for reuse”. Some of his designs are redesigned wedding dresses, parachutes, saris and handbags, and all of them are stunning.

I have a soft spot for older people embracing vlogging, and when Lucy showed me this account, I was simply obsessed.

Flick Chicks is a group of Midwestern “older-ish ladies who see a lot of movies!” After seeing a film - and they see almost everything that’s released - the women sit in their car and give a review. 

In the age of fading attention spans, it’s so refreshing to just see two ladies sitting in their car and discussing cinema with no fast edits or gimmicks.

Art should be accessible – and in Amsterdam’s Van Gogh museum, it is.

The museum welcomes guide dogs, has large-font booklets, tactile floor plans and gallery texts that describe the artworks. For those who aren’t able to navigate through the museum, they are allowed to bring a friend for free, with a complimentary audio tour for them.  

They have a program called ‘Feeling Van Gogh,’ a reproduction of Vincent Van Gogh’s iconic ‘Sunflowers.’ Attendees can smell sunflowers and feel brush strokes.

One art-lover with low vision said it was “obviously amazing,” adding that “more people should experience this… you will be able to look at such a painting in a completely different way.”
