Happy Sunday!

It was on this day in 1985 that the Live Aid benefit concerts were held in London and Philadelphia - an incredible example of the power of joint focus and effort to create some good change in the world. The event, broadcast around the world, didn’t only raise hundreds of millions of dollars for the Ethiopian famine disaster response effort, but delivered iconic performances like this.

🐢 Chihuahua saves owner

They say dogs are man’s best friend. For one man in Switzerland last week, it really was true – his chihuahua saved his life.

According to local authorities, the un-named man fell into a crack in a glacier while hiking with his dog.

While he was able to radio for help from the bottom of the eight-metre crevasse, rescue teams weren’t easily able to locate him.

Enter his chihuahua.

Air Zermatt, the rescue team, said the man’s dog was visible from the air, which β€œprobably saved his life.”

The team said the dog remained there during the entire operation and followed every move, calling him β€œa four-legged hero”.

🎡 Feel good song of the week

Human - The Killers

This song resurfaced for me this week, and I felt a wave of the good feels. It’s a song best served driving early in the morning, or right at the end of a night with friends.

πŸŽ‚ Moo Deng turns one!

Pygmy hippo Moo Deng celebrated her first birthday at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand this week.

For those who are unfamiliar with β€˜the people’s pygmy princess,’ Moo Deng became an internet sensation soon after she was born last year. She’s known for her pink cheeks, small size, and big attitude.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo wished her β€œgood health and a long life of bouncing and wriggling” in a post to Instagram. The zoo has also set up a fundraiser to celebrate, with all proceeds going to β€œsustainably care for [their] animals”.

They weren’t the only ones – zoos in Scotland, Germany and the U.S. which have their own baby pygmy hippos also sent their best wishes and a card on Instagram. Happy birthday Moo Deng!

A NSW man’s idea to help those with mental ill-health is getting a state-wide boost.

Mental health nurse Keith Donnelly began a clothing service in the Illawarra called Keith’s Closet in 2019.

The not-for-profit provides clothes to individuals accessing mental health services.

The idea came about when Donnelly saw patients accessing his services would arrive at hospital with only what they were wearing.

Keith’s Closet provides clothing, toiletries, footwear and accessories when people are admitted or discharged from a mental health facility, allowing people to β€œembrace their reintegration and thrive in society.”

This week, the NSW Government announced it had given Keith’s Closet nearly $200,000 to expand its facilities and open more locations in the state.
