In case you missed it, this week, Alaskan Brown Bear ‘32 Chunk’ was named the winner of Fat Bear Week after two years as runner-up.
Since 2014, the annual online poll has celebrated the hundreds of Brown Bears who live in the U.S. state of Alaska’s Katmai National Park.

Fans vote for the bear they think did the best job to bulk up on salmon in preparation for their winter hibernation.
Chunk is healing from a broken jaw. The nature and timing of his injury (during mating season) suggests he was injured in a fight with another bear.

🎡 Luna Park’s 90th birthday!
Yesterday, Luna Park Sydney turned 90, and to celebrate, they had ninety 90-year-olds ride the Ferris wheel together. The 90-year-olds were nominated by members of the public because what better way to celebrate nine whole decades?!

Two of the nonagenarians, Brian and Bett Calford, have a long history at the park. They first visited in the 1970s. Now, two of their grandchildren, David and Lyndsey, work there. David even met his wife Skye at Luna Park. Say no more. I am obsessed.
Bett and Brian said: “We were so proud to have an opportunity to support our grandchildren in creating a memorable and iconic celebration for all of Luna Park Sydney’s fans. We are here for the history-making Ferris Wheel ride, but we are also excited to see all the families ready to create their very own memories at Luna Park Sydney on its 90th birthday."

The Afghan Women’s refugee soccer team are set to play their first international match in almost four years.
The 23-player squad is expected to travel to the UAE for the FIFA Unites: Women’s Series at the end of the month.
The squad comprises experienced and younger players based in Australia, the UK, Portugal, and Italy.
One of the players, defender Kereshma Abasi, said the opportunity “represents a new beginning.”
“It is not just about football; it is about inspiring others and proving that with hard work and resilience, anything is possible,” she said.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the announcement of the inaugural squad is “truly a special and symbolic moment – not only for these 23 remarkable players, but also for women’s football as whole.”

The Dull Men’s Club celebrates the dull, mundane and niche interests of men around the world.
The Facebook group’s motto is “Celebrating the Ordinary.” Members post about “the joy [they] find mundane, common, everyday things, things others often think are full but for us they provide excitement”.
My favourite post is this mechanic appreciating a tyre machine, and the comment saying “good machine right there.”
💗 Breast cancer booths
October is breast cancer awareness month, and with that in mind, we have a good news PSA.
The Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) is launching a campaign to push women to check their breasts more often, emphasising the importance of early detection.
If you’re based in eastern Sydney, from 9-12 October, BCNA is setting up a Breast Check Hub at North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club.
The hub will have free, publicly accessible breast check booths where participants will learn self-check techniques.
