Happy Sunday!

Get outside, and find a bird to listen to.

According to a 2022 study from King’s College London, there were β€œsignificant positive associations between seeing or hearing birds and mental wellbeing”.

Let’s all try to give nature’s original podcast a go today!

⭐️ The first Black African on the Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is about to get brighter, with a slate of new stars. Among the honorees is singer-songwriter AngΓ©lique Kidjo, who will become the first Black African on the walk (actor Charlize Theron was the first person from Africa to receive a star).

Earlier this week, the Walk of Fame Selection Panel (yep, that’s a thing!) announced 35 individuals chosen from hundreds of nominations, including Timothee Chalamet, Miley Cryrus, Shaquille O’Neal, and Deepika Padukone, who is also making history by becoming the first Indian actress to be featured.

Outside her musical career, Kidjo was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2022 and founded Batonga, an organisation that helps and empowers young African girls.

A field of sunflowers has bloomed at the Olympic Forest Park in Beijing, China. The field is part of a big public park left over from the 2008 Summer Olympics. The park does double duty β€” not only is it nice for locals and tourists to visit, its trees and plants take thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere each year. πŸ“·: Yang Yi via Getty Images

🎡 Feel good song of the week

As - Stevie Wonder (1976)

If I had to explain the concept of joy to an alien, I would play them this song. Every minute is better than the last. 🎢 Did you know you’re loved by somebody?! β€” Lucy, TDA’s copyeditor

🏏 Making cricket more accessible

One ofΒ the world’s most iconic cricket grounds is becoming more accessible. In partnership with accessibility navigation app Waymap, the Marylebone Cricket Club is improving the experience for blind and disabled cricket enthusiasts at Lord’s in London.

Visitors can now be personally navigated to the stadium exits, amenities and seats through audio. The app is also sustainable, and provides users with low-carbon options from their homes to the cricket stadium. It has multi-language accessibility features, such as step-free routing and accessible toilet options, ensuring that cricket fans get the best possible experience regardless of who they barrack for.Β

πŸ’Œ A message from My Queensland

Feel like everyone’s in Europe, but your annual leave says otherwise?

Time to unlock a sneaky mid-week escape to Queensland - because the Gold Coast is serving just as much sunshine, luxe ocean views, and main character energy (minus the 24-hour flight).

This isn’t your family holiday. We’re talking adults-only resorts, late checkouts, spa treatments, rooftop cocktails and zero kids cannonballing near your Aperol.

My Queensland’s got the goods - flights, transfers, daily brekkie, and unreal value all tied up in one easy booking.

Take the week off… without taking the week off.

😊 What made us happy this week?

This YouTube account is one of TDA journalist Anju’s favourites. She says it’s because it’s β€œso practical and wholesome.”

β€œDad, How Do I?” aims to help anyone wondering how to do tasks typically taught by their fathers. In other words, it provides β€œdadvice” on tasks, ranging from how to tie a tie to landscaping the backyard. The β€œDad,” Rob Kenny, starts each video with a β€œhey kids!” Topics range from β€œWisdom Wednesday” advice to cooking videos, and, of course, dad jokes.Β

🐸 It’s a frog party!

One of Australia’s most endangered species, the Corroboree Frog, has seen its largest-ever release into a NSW national park.

Rangers released 544 Northern Corroboree frogs in Brindabella National Park after they were bred at Taronga Zoo in Sydney. Despite weighing just two to three grams, the frogs have a vital role in their ecosystem in the sub-alpine ranges. The current wild population is estimated to have dipped below 1,200, so this is a welcome addition!

The paper-clip sized frogs are between four months and one year old, and, according to Wildlife Conservation Officer Michael McFadden, will "dramatically bolster the wild population of this critically endangered species.” The black-and-yellow striped frogs are only found within the ACT and NSW, and are culturally significant to First Nations people, meaning their impacts exist beyond the ecosystem. The conservation breeding program plans to release more eggs and frogs in the wild!Β
